About Diego Lepage:

Diego Lepage is a senior executive and attorney who has built a career at the intersection of law, finance, and business leadership, serving in senior executive roles across banking, investment, and corporate management. His expertise spans corporate law, financial law, mergers and acquisitions, investment structuring, asset protection, real estate investments, and corporate governance. He advises businesses and investors on sophisticated transactions and strategic growth initiatives throughout Latin America and the United States.
Blue Ocean: For those who may not be familiar with you yet, how would you introduce yourself and the path that led you to your current role?
Diego: I am a Venezuelan-born lawyer, business advisor, and investor currently based in Miami. I began my professional career immediately after graduating from law school, advising clients on complex legal, financial, and business matters. While working full-time, I completed my postgraduate studies at night, which became an experience that strengthened the discipline, organization, and perseverance that have guided me throughout my career.
As my clients’ needs evolved, my work gradually expanded beyond traditional legal advice. I became increasingly involved in business strategy, governance, financial structuring, investments, and important decision-making. My objective was never simply to complete a transaction, but to become a trusted advisor who understood each client’s broader goals and circumstances.
I’ve always made genuine efforts to get to know my clients well. I listen carefully to their needs, priorities, and realities because important professional and financial decisions rarely exist in isolation. Understanding the broader context allows me to offer more practical advice tailored to what each client is truly trying to accomplish.
That experience led naturally to my current role as Partner at LG Abogados, where I combine my legal and financial background with an entrepreneurial and investment-oriented perspective. Today, I manage my own investment portfolio, evaluate opportunities across different industries and real estate, and continue advising clients on selected transactions and strategic matters. Although my responsibilities have evolved, my approach remains grounded in the same principles: integrity, disciplined execution, sound judgment, and long-term relationships built on trust.

Blue Ocean: In a highly competitive legal landscape, what do you believe sets you apart in how you advise and support clients?
Diego: I do not approach a client’s needs as isolated legal matters. I try to understand each client’s business, professional objectives, financial circumstances, and the personal realities that may influence their decisions. I believe listening carefully before offering an opinion is crucial to provide sound answers, even if they may not always be legally viable.
My role is not simply to identify risks or explain what should not be done. Finding the safest and most practical path towards my client’s chief objective remains the core of my engagements. When the preferred outcome is difficult to achieve, I redirect focus to develop creative alternatives that come as close as possible while protecting the client’s interests.
I also place great importance on accessibility, responsiveness, and anticipating needs before they become problems. My clients know they can expect honest advice, including when the answer may not be what they hoped to hear. Combining legal knowledge with financial judgment and business experience ensures that I provide advice that is more comprehensive, practical, and genuinely valuable. Ultimately, my goal is not merely to complete a transaction or resolve a specific issue, but to build the trust required to become a long-term advisor.
Blue Ocean: What value or perspective do clients gain when working with you that goes beyond technical legal advice?
Diego: Clients gain a broader strategic perspective that considers not only what the law permits, but also how a decision may affect their business, finances, relationships, reputation, and long-term objectives. Legal issues rarely exist in isolation, so I try to look at the bigger picture and anticipate the practical consequences of each available option. For instance, one of my clients had only a partial understanding of the tax implications behind their company’s domestic and cross-border transactions. I helped them see how gaps were impacting their margins over long periods of time.
Since my experience spans legal, financial, investment, and business matters, I’m able to analyze situations from several perspectives. I help clients distinguish what is urgent, identify future risks, compare possible outcomes, and make informed decisions even when complete certainty is not available.
Beyond financial and legal expertise, I also bring an owner’s and investor’s mindset to the table. I understand that clients must balance legal protection with commercial investments, timing, cost, and opportunities. Therefore, my objective is to translate complex information about corporate governance, asset protection, and wealth restructuring into clear alternatives and actionable recommendations.
The greatest value I can provide is clarity: helping them see the complete situation, understand the trade-offs, and move forward with greater confidence.
Blue Ocean: Is there a moment or milestone in your career that stands out as particularly meaningful?
Diego: One of the most meaningful milestones in my career was realizing that clients no longer saw me only as the lawyer handling a particular matter, but as someone they trusted to advise them on broader business, financial, and personal decisions.
That evolution was built gradually through years of being available, listening carefully, honoring my commitments, and providing honest advice. Over time, clients began involving me earlier in their decision-making, asking for my perspective beyond strictly legal questions, and referring their family members, friends, and business associates to me. One of my most rewarding experiences was when a long-standing client introduced his grandson and asked me to guide him in making early-career investment decisions. Even though my expertise resides in larger mergers & acquisitions and complex commercial transactions, I still helped the young man decide his investment objectives and map out his actionable steps.
For me, those referrals and long-standing relationships have been among the greatest recognitions of my professional career. They confirmed that the real value of my work is not simply resolving an immediate issue but earning the confidence to become a trusted advisor. That memory continues to shape how I approach every client relationship today.

Blue Ocean: What advice would you give your younger self and other young people aspiring to pursue the same career?
Diego: I would tell my younger self to be patient, trust the process, and focus less on how quickly success arrives. Early in my career, I was occasionally impatient because my goals seemed to take longer than I expected. With time, I learned that a meaningful career is built gradually through discipline and the steps you take when progress is slower than you hoped.
To young people pursuing a blended career in legal and financial advisory, I would first recommend building a strong technical foundation. Learn how businesses operate, understand financial concepts, develop sound judgment, and become genuinely interested in the people you advise. The best legal solution must also consider the client’s practical realities.
I would also encourage them to be proactive. Do not limit yourself to completing only the task assigned to you. Ask how else you can help, what problems you can anticipate, and how you can create additional value. Be responsive, honor your commitments, and never promise an outcome simply because it is what someone wants to hear.
Most importantly, protect your integrity and reputation. Technical knowledge can open the door, but trust creates lasting relationships and opportunities. Be patient, remain curious, and treat every responsibility, no matter how small, as an opportunity to learn and demonstrate your character. Over time, consistent effort and sound values will take you further than shortcuts to success.
Blue Ocean: What is something you are grateful for?
Diego: Above all, I am grateful for my family and our health. My family gives meaning and purpose to everything I do, and some of the moments I value most are the simplest ones, such as spending time with my wife and daughters. Taking my daughters to school, talking, laughing, and being present in their lives is of particular importance to me.
I am also deeply thankful to maintain good health and remain active. Health is something we can easily take for granted, but I find it’s the foundation that influences how we enjoy time with our families, pursue our goals, overcome challenges, and appreciate life fully.
Professional achievements are important, but they have little meaning if we cannot share them with the people we love. For me, having a healthy and united family is life’s greatest blessing and the accomplishment I value most.
Blue Ocean: What are your sources of inspiration?
Diego: My greatest source of inspiration is my family. My wife and daughters remind me why I work hard; they keep me grounded and motivate me to keep growing personally and professionally. Through them, I realized success isn’t measured only by professional accomplishments, but by the time, values, and experiences we share with the people we love.
Running is another important source of inspiration for me. I began practicing track and field when I was seven years old, and it has remained a constant throughout my life. Running gives me the space to clear my mind, reflect, and consider challenges from different perspectives. Many of my best ideas and solutions have emerged during those quiet moments.
I am also inspired by the people I work with and the challenges they entrust to me. For me, inspiration often comes from combining these three elements: the purpose I receive from my family, the clarity I find through exercise, and the intellectual challenge of helping others move forward.
Blue Ocean: How do you disconnect from work and maintain balance outside the legal world?
Diego: The best way for me to disconnect from work is by spending time with my family. My professional life can be demanding, so I value the simple moments we share.
I genuinely enjoy staying at home. Cooking is one of my favorite ways to relax because it allows me to slow down, be creative, and prepare something my family and friends can enjoy together. Those quiet moments at home help me recharge and appreciate the importance of being present.
I also love boating, particularly because living in Miami gives us the opportunity to spend time on the water as a family. Being on the boat provides a complete change of environment and makes it easier to step away from daily responsibilities. During the winter, skiing is another activity we enjoy together.
For me, maintaining balance means making a conscious effort to protect time for the people and activities that matter most. Family time, being at home, cooking, boating, and skiing help me return to work with greater energy, clarity, and perspective.

Blue Ocean: Was there a defining experience that shaped your perspective or reaffirmed your commitment to what you do?
Diego: A defining experience for me was pursuing my professional career immediately after graduating from law school while simultaneously completing my postgraduate studies at night. During that period, my days were devoted to work and my evenings to continuing my education. I came out on the other side with a honed sense of discipline, sacrifice, and a strong sense of responsibility. Owing to my career, I was able to connect academic knowledge with real-world experience from the very beginning.
Working directly with clients taught me how legal matters are often multi-dimensional. Behind every matter is a person, a family, or a business facing practical concerns, financial consequences, and important decisions. Understanding that broader reality changed the way I viewed my role.
That experience shaped the advisor I became and reaffirmed my commitment to this profession. It taught me that knowledge provides the foundation, but trust, empathy, discipline, and responsibility let you make a meaningful difference in a client’s life or business.
Blue Ocean: Is there a quote that reflects your approach to investment, leadership, or life in general?
Diego: A phrase that reflects my approach to investment, leadership, and life is “Consistency usually beats cleverness.”
In investing, it reminds me that a disciplined strategy followed over time is generally more effective than constantly chasing the latest trend or trying to predict every market movement. In leadership, it means that credibility is built by making thoughtful decisions, honoring commitments, and showing up consistently, even when circumstances become difficult.
The same principle applies to life. Meaningful results rarely come from one brilliant decision or a single moment of inspiration. They are usually the product of small, responsible actions repeated over time. Talent and intelligence are valuable, but without discipline, patience, and perseverance, they rarely reach their full potential.
I try to apply this idea in everything I do: remain focused on the long term, continue learning, and make steady progress rather than searching for shortcuts.
