Duane M. Bryant, M.D., is a board-certified comprehensive ophthalmologist with more than 30 years of clinical, surgical, teaching, and medico-legal experience. Licensed in California, he has built a multifaceted career encompassing private ophthalmology practice, academic instruction, and long-standing forensic consulting.
Dr. Bryant earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park, his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Maryland Medical School, Baltimore, and an M.S. in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University in Maryland. He completed a flexible medical internship at Maryland General Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at The Friedenwald Eye Institute, where he later served as a teaching attending physician.
His clinical practice has focused on the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, branch and central retinal vein occlusions, ocular trauma, and vision loss or visual impairment. His surgical and procedural expertise includes cataract and glaucoma surgery, laser procedures for glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, laser treatment for retinal vein occlusions, management of macular degeneration, and intravitreal Avastin injections. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds advanced laser certifications.
Since 2004, Dr. Bryant has maintained a dedicated forensic and expert witness consulting practice, providing independent medical examinations, expert reports and testimony, peer reviews, impairment ratings, nexus letters, and life care planning input. His litigation experience includes matters involving surgical complications, glaucoma management, retinal disease, ocular trauma, and vision-related causation and damages in medical malpractice and personal injury cases. He is widely regarded for producing clear, objective, and timely expert reports and for his professionalism during deposition and courtroom proceedings.
