USIBC is proud to have President Aghi coming aboard at a time of great potential and revived enthusiasm for India\u2019s business community. As president, Dr. Aghi will lead the Council’s strategic direction and policy priorities with the objective of enhancing the bilateral commercial relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strategic partnership between the U.S. and India is not only beneficial for the two nations, but critical to global economic prosperity,\u201d Dr. Aghi said earlier this January. \u201cI am honored and delighted to be part of the USIBC team.\u201d<\/p>\n

The evening began with the venerable Charg\u00e9 d’Affaires Ambassador, Taranjit Singh Sandhu<\/a>, who provided comments on the Union Budget of India<\/a> before sharing perspective on why investment in India remains compelling. He also highlighted the strength and importance of US India business relationship capital. Mr. Sandhu serves as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India<\/a> in Washington D.C.<\/p>\n

Dr. Aghi was introduced by Ambassador Susan Esserman, Partner, Steptoe & Johnson.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Esserman<\/a> highlighted the rigorous search conducted by USIBC before selecting Dr. Aghi. She also reinforced Dr. Aghi\u2019s desire to build upon the special friendship that exists between the United States and India. Ms. Esserman serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the US-India Business Council<\/a>, and on the boards of the International Association for Women Judges, and Population Action International. She is a member of the US Department of State\u2019s Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy, the India-US Track II Dialogue on Climate Change and Energy (Aspen Institute), the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Wellesley Business Leadership Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the way from the Ambassador here down to the Prime Minister\u2019s office, every individual is focused on trying to make things easier for US investments to come in much more efficiently into the country of India. Yes, we will have challenges. Yes, we will have hurdles. We will have bumps on the road. But I think when you are trying to basically change the environment it does take some time. It is not I what a call as an issue of this quarter result, what we see in the corporate environment. It is going to take 5, 10, probably longer time, because this is a partnership which is going to drive change on this planet for the next 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Aghi brings to the council extensive executive experience in global business, and deep understanding of the business and policy dynamics in both India and the U.S.<\/p>\n

\u201cMukesh Aghi\u2019s experience will be invaluable as he leads USIBC in strengthening and expanding U.S.-India business ties in the critical years ahead for the bilateral relationship,\u201d said Ajay Banga<\/a>, USIBC chairman and president and CEO of MasterCard.<\/p>\n

Dr. Aghi\u2019s career includes positions leading the international growth and operations of prestigious American and Indian technology companies. Previously, he served as CEO of L&T InfoTech and Steria Asia Pacific; president of IBM India; and worked with high technology companies including J.D. Edwards and Ariba. His postings have been in France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, India and the United States.
